Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 4, 2026

PopAPage helps parents track and grow their children's reading. We built it privacy-first and parent-only, and we treat the trust that comes with a family's data โ€” especially children's data โ€” as the most important thing we hold. This page explains, in plain English, what information we handle, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have.

What this policy covers

This policy applies to the PopAPage mobile app and this website (popapage.net). It describes the information we collect, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, how we protect it, and your rights as a parent or guardian.

Built for children's privacy (our COPPA approach)

PopAPage is designed around the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):

  • A parent or legal guardian holds the only account. Children never sign in and never use the app directly.
  • Children exist only as profiles the parent creates. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child.
  • The parent enters and controls all of a child's information and can review, export, or delete it at any time.

If you believe a child has provided us information directly, contact us and we'll delete it promptly.

Information we collect

From you (the parent or guardian):

  • Your account email address โ€” and, if you use Sign in with Apple, the identifier Apple provides.
  • Your app preferences and settings (for example, a home library you add).
  • Purchase status from the App Store, if you ever subscribe. (PopAPage is free during the beta.)

About your children (the information you choose to enter):

  • A first name or nickname, and optionally an age or grade.
  • The reading activity you log: books read, dates, who they read with, your notes, and the estimated reading levels PopAPage generates.

Automatically, to run the app:

  • Basic device and app information and diagnostics needed to operate, secure, and improve the service.

Device permissions:

  • Camera โ€” used only to scan a book's barcode on your device.
  • Location (optional) โ€” if you allow it, used only to help find nearby libraries. You can decline and still use the app.

What we don't collect: we don't collect a child's precise location, contacts, photos (beyond the barcode scan), or voice or biometric data โ€” and we never use third-party advertising or behavioral tracking of children.

How we use your information

  • Provide the core service โ€” log reading, track progress, and sync across the caregivers you invite.
  • Generate estimated reading levels and personalized book recommendations.
  • Send you service messages, and โ€” only if you opt in โ€” reminders or weekly digests.
  • Provide support and improve PopAPage.

We never use your family's information to advertise to you or your children, and we never sell it.

How your information is shared

We do not sell your data, show ads, or allow third-party advertising or behavioral tracking. We share information only with trusted service providers that help us run PopAPage โ€” each bound by contract to protect it and use it only on our behalf:

  • Supabase โ€” secure database and account hosting.
  • Anthropic (Claude) โ€” generates book details, reading-level estimates, and recommendations.
  • Apple โ€” Sign in with Apple and App Store services.
  • Email and website hosting providers โ€” deliver our emails and host this site and its waitlist form.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of a child or others.

Finding books: library and store links

PopAPage's "where to find it" feature links out to your local library and to book retailers such as Bookshop.org and Amazon. Some purchase links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These are separate third-party websites with their own privacy policies; the links are parent-facing and don't track children.

How long we keep your data

We keep your family's information only for as long as your account is active. When you delete a record, a child's profile, or your whole account, we delete the associated personal information within 30 days, except for limited records we're required to keep by law. We do not keep personal information indefinitely.

Your rights and choices

As the account holder, you can at any time:

  • Review and correct your family's information.
  • Export a copy of your family's data.
  • Delete individual records, a child's profile, or your entire account โ€” account deletion is available in the app.
  • Opt out of any non-essential emails.

To exercise any of these, use the app or email us (see below).

How we protect your data

We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest, and strict per-family access controls so each family can only ever see its own data. Internal access is limited to what's needed to run the service, and we maintain safeguards designed to prevent unauthorized access. If a breach ever affects your information, we'll notify you as required by law.

Where your data is stored

PopAPage stores data on servers located in the United States.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the "Last updated" date above. For material changes, we'll provide a more prominent notice.
